Chances are you’ve seen Appleton Rum on the shelf of your local market or liquor store. It’s one of the world’s most recognizable brands, and it’s pretty good rum, too. And it’s made in Jamaica, pretty close to Treasure Beach.
The Appleton Estate is just over an hour away from Treasure Beach and located in the same parish. This means that if you like rum at all (maybe even dreamed of drinking rum while in Jamaica?), taking a tour of the Appleton Estate and Factory while you’re staying in Treasure Beach is a must.
Nestled in the Nassau Valley, the Appleton Estate is an 11,000 acre property of sugarcane, a sugarcane refinery and the distillery. The Estate has been dedicated to making rum for hundreds of years.
The Appleton Estate runs tours of their facilities daily. When you arrive for a tour, they start you off by pouring you a cup of their famous Rum Punch drink, a refreshing cocktail of dark, gold and white rums mixed with pineapple juice, orange juice and more.
They then guide you through their facilities, showing how rum is made from the very beginning to the very end, and showing how they used to make it in the old days, too.
You then end the tour at the bar, where you can try an assortment of rums and creams that they make.
While getting to Appleton Estate is a long day of travel for people staying at some other destinations on the island, it’s just a short hour drive from Treasure Beach. So when you’re ready to relax after a few hours of drinking rum, the taxi driver will have you back at Seaside Villa in no time.
